About Us
The Abalomics community portal is a community driven project to increase genetic knowledge of the abalone species. The portal is designed by collaborators to allow easy access to abalone species ‘omics data, and to connect researchers and partners working in areas of common research interest to improve outcomes for the abalone sector.
CSIRO, Australia
CSIRO Agriculture is dedicated to research to provide innovative outcomes to assist agriculture and aquaculture industires to improve productivity and sustainability. The CSIRO Aquaculture team works closely with industry partners nationally and internationally to integrate genetics, physiology, health and aquafeed research to support industry goals. Key research areas in the abalone sector include reproduction, spawning, maturation, health and selective breeding. CSIRO is a world leader in ‘omics research and analysis and is currently leading the Abalone Genome and Abalomics Community Portal initiatives.

USC’s molecular communication research group is most interested in the molecular biomolecules involved in cell-cell communication which are key components for animals to coordinate metabolic activities. In abalone, this includes the identification of: 1) neuropeptides and their functional role in growth and reproduction; 2) pheromones and their role in conspecific communication; and 3) cell membrane receptor proteins that facilitate recognition of external stimuli. The elucidation of this chemosensory toolkit of biomolecules provides a much better understanding of how the abalone perceives and responds to its environment.
